Teaching Children Their Letter Sounds
Creating local jobs
Teaching every child at their level
Built to scale with government
Partnership with the Department of Education
We don't work around the system — we work inside it. In partnership with the Eastern Cape DoE, delivering impact at scale through public schools.
Inside Public Schools
We work within existing public school infrastructure, not alongside it. No new buildings, no separate locations, no setup or infrastructure costs.
Alongside Teachers
Education Assistants work as partners to the class teacher, not replacements. This adds capacity rather than replacing the existing system.
Built to Scale
The model is designed to grow. By embedding in the DoE system and training community youth, we can expand to hundreds of schools without creating a parallel system.
Supporting the Curriculum
Our laser focus on children in Grades R & 1 achieving letter sound mastery enables teachers to progress through their curriculum with confidence.
What works in one school can reach thousands.
Our government partnership is the foundation for nationwide scale.
Data-Driven Intervention
Zazi iZandi is data-driven, tracking progress and outcomes down to each individual child. By leveraging detailed analytics, we take a Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach to ensure each child receives an effective learning experience.

Zazi iZandi: Leveraging public employment to lay literacy foundations
Backed By Expert Research
Professor Brahm Fleisch from the University of the Witwatersrand, a leading education researcher in South Africa, conducted an important study on a pilot education program. His research offered a detailed evaluation of the program's effectiveness. The results, as presented in his report, are very positive.
A 45% improvement in children reaching the benchmark from 29% to 42%.
Grade R's improved their letter sound knowledge by 100% while Grade 1s improved by 27%.
With focused training and support, youth are able to improve reading outcomes with a relatively small dosage of training (2 days).
There is great potential in providing a set of low cost LTSM at the level of the youth to work with learners in small groups.
